On March 15, 2024, the construction of the J.P Magufuli Bridge (Kigongo – Busisi) and its connecting road, which spans 3.2 kilometers and 1.66 kilometers respectively, was reported to have reached 85% completion.

The bridge and road will connect the Usagara – Sengerema – Geita highway in Lake Victoria, located in the Mwanza region.
